Modul Wohnbau

Winter semester 2025/26

The “Module Housing” consists of various courses that raise questions about the future of housing, what DNA is inscribed in the idea of the home and what architectural types and forms of living exist. In the discursive public format “Housing Talks” with international guests, we learn and discuss historical, current and future aspects of housing and living together from different perspectives.
Modul Wohnbau focuses on questions of spatial and social quality of housing and, in this context, deals with issues of class, gender, representation, sustainability, form, and neighborhood in housing.

From different perspectives, the influence of rituals, constraints or habits on our everyday housing practices will be explored, as well as the impact of power structures and gender roles on our everyday living and housing spaces.

The lectures "Forms of Housing" offer students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in the research area of housing design. Theoretical and practice-oriented subjects are intended to enrich the field of housing design with concepts, projects and theories.

Im Workshop „On Site | Architektur und Fotografie“ untersuchen wir bekannte Wohngebäude Wiens auf ihre Gebrauchsspuren und ihre Transformation im Laufe der Jahre. Resultat ist eine inhaltlich kohärente und visuell aussagekräftige künstlerische Fotoarbeit.

Der Wiener Wohnbau steht für eine große Bandbreite an Errungenschaften, Typologien und Innovationen. WOHNEN: ON SITE soll anhand von „Vor Ort“-Besuchen exemplarischer Projekte unmittelbaren Einblick in die Komplexität von Planungs- und Umsetzungsmöglichkeiten im Wohnbau vermitteln.

Formen des Wohnens: THE FREE LIFE OF ELEMENTS OF ARCHITECTURE

This course is an excavation to call back the tools of the architects before the idea of Modernity, when we were used to think the space as a whole to be infilled by singular elements or architecture, that were useful to complete unfinished buildings or transform the existing ones for new purposes.
