Max Utech is a licensed architect based in Paris, working across urbanism, architecture, and art. His practice centers on the design of transformative, caring, and empowering environments, with a particular focus on developing a queer-feminist spatial practice.
Together with Max Turnheim, he co-leads the Parisian architecture studio UHO, dedicated to maximizing use and surface while minimizing cost and carbon footprint. In May 2025, UHO presented its first solo exhibition at DNL Gallery Paris.
With Bernadette Krejs, he co-founded Palace of Un/Learning, a queer-feminist critical spatial practice that explores, invents, and shares counter-hegemonic design strategies. Since 2023, they collaborated with institutions such as the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, Oslo Architecture Triennale, Irish Architecture Foundation, Design Academy Eindhoven, Viper Gallery, UMPRUM Prague, and Archfondas Vilnius. Their first major institutional exhibition took place in July/August 2025 at the DAZ – German Architecture Center Berlin.
Max Utech has received both the Schütte-Lihotzky and Hans-Hollein Scholarships from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Art and Culture. His residencies include the Cité internationale des arts Paris and the ZK/U – Centre for Art and Urbanism Berlin. He was also a fellow of LINA – the European Architecture Platform for Emerging Practitioners.
Alongside his practice, Max Utech teaches at TU Wien and the Design Academy Eindhoven, and has been invited as a guest reviewer at institutions such as the AA London, ENSA Belleville Paris, ESA Paris, ENSA Versailles, and the Politecnico di Milano.
