Michael Obrist [feld72] in conversation with Astrid Smitham and Nicholas Lobo Brennan [APPARATA] about "Rip it up and start again"

Apparata is a London based architecture and research practice, led by Astrid Smitham and Nicholas Lobo Brennan. Their work is focussed on creating an intuitive social architecture, harnessing simple and replicable construction techniques to create generous adaptable spaces that meet the ongoing needs of the individuals and communities. Their work looks for ways to design buildings where the people that occupy them will have agency, and where the spaces are open to change. Apparata’s project A House For Artists is the recipient of the Neave Brown award for housing and was nominated for the RIBA Stirling prize.

Apparata have exhibited widely including at RIBA, Whitechapel Gallery, Venice Biennale, Triennale Milano and the Royal Academy Of Arts. Astrid Smitham and Nicholas Lobo Brennan have led studios at HEAD Geneva, Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam, Royal Collage of Art, and presently at Kingston School of Art where Nicholas is associate professor. Both are currently guest professors at the department of Housing and Design at TU Vienna.
